1. What NoGuri Is

NoGuri is a clean-air service that helps people mark and avoid secondhand smoke. Users mark locations of active smoke, cigarette butts, designated smoking areas, and no-smoking zones so that non-smokers, caregivers, children, pregnant people, and those with respiratory sensitivities can keep their distance and breathe cleaner air.

Marks are smoke- and environment-awareness signals about places — they are not a tool to find places to smoke, and they are not used to identify, track, or target individuals.

This Privacy Policy explains what information NoGuri collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Guest use: You can look around NoGuri without an account. As a guest no account is created and no identifier is assigned. The map shows the official no-smoking zones and designated smoking areas from public records; to look those up, the app sends the centre point of the map to our server, where it is used only to answer that request and is not stored or linked to you. Marks you place as a guest are stored only on your device; they reach us only if you later create an account, at which point they are uploaded to it.
  • Account: To take part you create an account with an email address and password, or by signing in with Google.
  • For email accounts we collect your email address. For Google sign-in we receive your email address and profile name from Google.
  • Profile: an optional nickname you set in the app.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Location: While the app is open and in use, we use your device's precise location (GPS) to show nearby smoke/marks and to send proximity alerts. NoGuri does not collect location in the background — location access stops when the app is not in the foreground.
  • Route points: If you ask NoGuri for a clean-air walking route, the start and destination coordinates of that request are sent to a walking-directions provider (see Section 5) to calculate the route. Route requests are not linked to your marks or your activity history.
  • Content you create: the type, coordinates, time, and any tags you select for marks you place, and your interactions with marks (for example, hits, confirmations, and reports). Marks carry no free-form text — tags are chosen from a fixed list provided by the app.
  • Usage data: basic activity counts (number of marks, number of hits) and standard access/service logs used to operate and secure the service.
  • Identifier: a user ID for your account — or the unique ID from your sign-in provider — used to associate your account with your data. Guests are assigned no identifier.

The items above are collected only once you have an account. A guest's device location is used on the device to centre the map; only the map's centre point is sent, to look up official zones, and it is not stored.

2.3 Information we do NOT collect

  • No advertising or tracking identifiers. NoGuri currently shows no advertisements and does not use advertising IDs (IDFA/GAID) or ad-tracking SDKs.
  • No push notification tokens. Proximity alerts are generated on your device (local notifications); we do not operate remote push or collect push tokens.
  • No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.

3. How We Use Information

  • Show nearby smoke and marks based on your real-time location, so you can avoid secondhand smoke.
  • Send on-device proximity alerts when you approach marked smoke (if you enable alerts).
  • Calculate walking routes that avoid marked smoke, when you request one.
  • Maintain your account, nickname, and settings, and upload the marks you saved on your device before creating it.
  • Keep basic activity statistics and operate, secure, and improve the service.

4. Retention and Use Period

  • Account information: kept until you delete your account, or until 3 years after your last sign-in, whichever comes first.
  • Marks: transient marks expire automatically (for example, active smoke after about 6 hours, cigarette butts after about 3 days); designated smoking areas and no-smoking zones are long-lived. Your marks are otherwise kept until you delete your account, after which they are deleted or anonymized for aggregate statistics.
  • Location: raw device location is used only to provide the service in real time and is not stored separately beyond the marks you choose to create.
  • Route data: calculated route geometry is cached against coordinates rounded to roughly 11 metres and is not linked to your account; it is deleted after 30 days. A per-day count of how many route searches you made is kept for rate limiting and deleted after 7 days.
  • Guest data on your device: marks you save without an account stay on the device until you upload them by creating an account, delete them in Settings, or uninstall the app. We hold no copy and cannot recover them.
  • Legal retention: where the law requires, certain records may be retained for the period prescribed by applicable law.

5. Sharing and Processors

NoGuri does not sell your personal information and does not share it with third parties, except: (a) with your prior consent; (b) when required by law or in response to a lawful request from authorities; or (c) with the service providers below, who process data on our behalf under contract:

  • Supabase — database hosting and user authentication. Processed in Japan (Tokyo, AWS ap-northeast-1).
  • Google Maps Platform — map display. Processed in the United States (Google LLC).
  • Google (Sign-In) — social login authentication. Processed in the United States (Google LLC).
  • SK Telecom (TMAP Open API) — walking-route calculation; receives the start and destination points of a route request. Processed in the Republic of Korea.
  • OpenRouteService (HeiGIT gGmbH) — walking-route calculation, used as a fallback provider; receives the start and destination points of a route request. Processed in Germany.

Except for SK Telecom, which processes within the Republic of Korea, these processors are located abroad, so using NoGuri involves the cross-border transfer of the information described above to those providers for the stated purposes. Our agreements require them to protect your data, use it only for the entrusted purpose, restrict re-entrustment, and apply technical and administrative safeguards.

Only one walking-route provider is active at a time; OpenRouteService is used as a fallback if the primary provider is unavailable.

6. Advertising

NoGuri currently displays no advertising and uses no advertising or tracking identifiers. If advertising is introduced in the future, we will update this policy to describe what is collected and provide opt-out/consent controls (including device-level "Limit Ad Tracking" and, on iOS, App Tracking Transparency) before any advertising data is collected.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You may, at any time:

  • Access / edit: view your account information and edit your nickname in the app's Settings.
  • Delete your account: delete your account and associated data from the app's Settings. You may also contact us to request deletion.
  • Control location: revoke NoGuri's location permission in your device settings (the app works with reduced functionality without it).
  • Control alerts: turn proximity alerts on or off in Settings or in your device settings.
  • Withdraw consent / object / restrict: contact us to exercise your rights under applicable law (including Korea's PIPA) — access, correction, deletion, and suspension of processing.

8. How We Protect Information

  • Encryption in transit (SSL/TLS) and at rest at our hosting provider.
  • Access controls limiting who can access personal data.
  • Regular security updates and patches.
  • Anonymization/aggregation of identifiable data used for statistics.

9. Children

NoGuri is intended for users aged 14 and older. NoGuri is a clean-air / secondhand-smoke-avoidance tool and is not intended to promote smoking. Users under 14 may use NoGuri only with verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian, as required by applicable law. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 14 without such consent, we will delete it promptly.

10. Content and Community Safety

Marks are visible to other users and are intended as smoke- and environment-awareness. Using marks to identify, surveil, or harass specific individuals is prohibited (see the Terms of Service). You can report marks; marks reported by multiple distinct users are removed automatically, and you may contact us about objectionable content.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the service or the law. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
